Our Community Guidelines
Hillel 818 programming, unless otherwise specified, is intended for 18-26 year old emerging Jewish adults and allies of the Jewish community who are working towards their undergraduate degrees.
Our community is built on the following principles, which we expect to be upheld by all program attendees and community members:
Safety: Your safety and the safety of our community will always be out top priority, and it includes physical, mental, and emotional safety, predicated on non-violence, no bullying, and consent.
Respect: Our words and actions will be “לְשֵׁם שָׁמַיִם” (leshem shamayim) - in the name of heaven, which means that we will act with respect for each other, our space, the organization, and the world at large.
Inclusion & Diversity: We celebrate the uniqueness of each individual, as we are created in the image of God. Let's be different, together!
Welcoming: Like Abraham with the 3 strangers, we will treat both new and veteran members of our Hillel 818 community like valued members of our Hillel 818 family.
When there is a violation of these principles, the Hillel staff member in charge will determine an appropriate response. For serious infractions of our community expectations, at the discretion of the Executive Director, a student must go through a process of teshuvah (repentance) supervised by a Hillel appointed Rabbi or spiritual advisor, before they are allowed to continue as an active member of our community.
