Remembering Sam Yellen

In the heart of our community, we fondly remember the life and legacy of Sam Yellen, a vibrant soul whose impact radiated far beyond our neighborhood. With his warm spirit, Sam was more than just a beloved neighbor, he was a force at California State University Northridge (CSUN), Temple Aliyah (now Hamakom), and throughout the Los Angeles Jewish community.

At CSUN, Sam earned himself a community leadership award and the rare distinction of having a lecture hall in the CSUN School of Business and Economic/accounting department named after him. His commitment to fostering connections among students and faculty left an indelible mark on campus.

But Sam’s story doesn’t stop there – his influence reached across the United States. Sam was honored by the Anti-Defamation League with the prestigious Lion of Judah Award for his unwavering dedication to Jewish life and the State of Israel. And closer to home, he recevied the Community Leadership Award from Cal State Northridge. Sam retired early from his work at KPMG and committed himself to a life of philanthropy and community service. He made an indelible mark on Temple Aliyah (now Hamakom).

Sam Yellen’s life was a captivating tale of community service and global recognition, weaving together the threads of local and international impact. Though he may no longer be with us, the echoes of Sam’s laughter and warmth of his spirit continue to resonate, reminding us all to celebrate life and cherish the connections we build.
